Why do we flip the inequality symbol when multiplying by a negative number or solving absolute value inequalities?

You flip the inequality when multiplying by a negative number because you are switching the value of a number. If you dont flip the inequality then you will get a wide range of numbers, which will be WRONG.  Also when you change the inequality into two equations you change the sign of the second. When dividing or multiplying by a negative you always flip the inequality.
